Is it embarrassing to be frugal if you are wealthy?

..There’s a woman who my colleagues always b*tch about. She’s some rich lawyer, but drives a small Hyundai.
My question is, will people look down on you for not showing off your wealth? Is it wrong to be frugal? If one is frugal despite being rich, is it wealthy?

Of course it’s not wrong to be frugal. There is something wrong with people who expect others to “show off” their wealth. You know if people do show off as you put it, they get criticised for that, and if they don’t spend their money, then they seem to be criticised for that. It’s like they can’t win. In the end it’s their money and their choice as to what to do with it. They probably became wealthy by being frugal and sensible with money, so good on them.

How do you think wealthy people get that way? Not by blowing money on stupid crap, duh huh

The car is an excuse for finding something to fault her with. It is not embarrassing to be frugal if you are rich. Rich people dont get rich by wasting their money. On the other hand being mean with money is something to be ashamed of. An example of meanness would be if this woman refused to take the bus to work becasue of the expense despite the fact that she was walking her feet until they bled. . If you cant enjoy your money there is no point having it but flaunting it in peoples’ faces doesnt impress either. Its a matter of degree

Well my boyfriends parents are both millionaires, literally. They also always are looking through flyers, finding the cheapest deal on something just to save 5 cents, they usually buy no name brand foods, and they usually only buy if things are on sale. I personally think it’s very weird behavior especially if you can afford like…name brand juice boxes but choose to buy the watery no-name ones that are a dollar cheaper. They do like to have extravagant looking houses though, but at the same time they don’t buy real solid hard wood, just wood looking laminate, and such. It’s odd.

My family isn’t as wealthy as they are, but everything we buy is name brand and 100% genuine.
There isn’t anything wrong with being frugal, but if you can afford to have regular things then buy it. No worries, you’ve got lots of money.
